Car Share consultation outcomes 2023

Council has now made a decision regarding several proposed car share parking spaces in your local area as outlined below.

The proposals follow an application from car share operators (received and assessed in line with the city's Car Share Policy). Council asked for community feedback before making the decision.

What is car share?

Car share is a service that provides personal or business access to a fleet of cars parked on or off-street for members. Car share is a great alternative to personal car ownership for many. Vehicles can be rented by the hour or day. Well-developed car share networks can reduce parking demand in the local area, reduce car dependency and encourage walking, cycling and public transport use.

Council supports expanding the local car share network and welcomes suitable applications from eligible operators. Operators are required to demonstrate demand for car share services in the area, as part of their application.

Council aims for cost-neutrality in managing car share and supports it to provide a service to the community rather than to raise revenue.

All car share bays are closely monitored and evaluated from 12 months after installation to ensure they receive sufficient ongoing usage to justify the kerbside space required.
