This is one of several precincts across Stonnington where changes to on-street parking restrictions are being explored.

Toorak Road, South Yarra is a vibrant precinct known for its boutique fashion and retail, celebrated dining and café culture, and thriving health and wellbeing sector.

In the 2025–26 financial year, over 1.5 million people visited South Yarra, with a total in-store spend of nearly $500 million. South Yarra is also at its busiest into the evening, so it's important to have parking restrictions that encourage turnover, giving as many people as possible the chance to visit.

We know businesses across the precinct have different needs when it comes to parking, and we're keen to hear from as many as possible. We want to hear from our community about these proposed changes, to make sure this precinct continues to thrive and local businesses are supported.

About what's being proposed

We're exploring changes to some on-street parking restrictions around Toorak Road, South Yarra, to help increase parking turnover and make it easier for customers and visitors to find a park.

Here's what's being explored for this precinct:

  • Time-limited parking (15-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour) extends to 9am–9pm, 7 days a week
  • Loading Zone and Truck Zone restrictions stay the same; time-limited parking applies outside those hours
  • No change to No Stopping areas

These changes would only apply to parking next to non-residential properties, such as shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and other businesses. For mixed-use buildings, a property is considered non-residential where the ground floor is used for a commercial purpose.

These changes are an initial response to current parking needs. We may review parking across the wider area in future and will keep the community informed about any further proposals.

You are also welcome to drop into an information session and chat to Council officers in person, no need to book.
