About what's being proposed

We're exploring changes to on-street parking restrictions around Malvern Road and Tooronga Road, to help increase parking turnover and make it easier for customers and visitors to find a park. We know businesses across the precinct have different needs when it comes to parking, and we've considered this as part of this review.

We're asking for your feedback on the following:

• Timed parking (including existing 15-Minute, 1-Hour and 2-Hour parking) would apply 9am to 9pm, seven days a week
• More parking options in response to local business requests:
  • Some current 30-Minute parking would become 2-Hour parking, to give people more time to park
  • New 2-Hour parking would also be introduced in an existing No Parking area, to increase parking available in the area
• Introducing time limits to unrestricted parking spaces, some all-day parking would change to timed parking
• Allowing timed parking outside Loading Zone and Truck Zone hours, giving customers and visitors more parking options when those zones aren't operating

How this relates to an earlier consultation

Earlier this year, we consulted properties between Tooronga Road and Edgar Street about changing 1-Hour parking to 2-Hour parking. The majority of participants were in favour, so these streets will change to 2-Hour parking, regardless of this current consultation's outcome. As part of this broader review, we're also asking whether that new 2-Hour parking should operate 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.

Here's an example of what the change in hours could look like:

*Timed parking: the time limit would match other timed parking in the surrounding area, for example, 1-Hour or 2-Hour parking.

These changes would only apply to parking next to shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and other businesses, including buildings with homes above a shop or other business.

What would stay the same

• Existing Loading Zone and Truck Zone days and hours
• No Stopping areas, you would still not be able to stop or park where these signs apply

What happens next

After consultation closes, we'll carefully consider all feedback before Council makes a final decision. We'll write to you again once a decision has been made. Properties that received a consultation letter will also be notified of the outcome by mail. This proposal focuses on current parking needs in the area. A broader parking review will take place in future and may consider other changes to parking restrictions.
