About what's being proposed

We're proposing changes to the hours and days parking restrictions apply on Burke Road in Glen Iris, to help increase the availability of limited on-street parking during busy periods, particularly in the evenings and on weekends.

We're asking for your feedback on the following:

  • Extending current parking restriction hours (such as 15-Minute, 1-Hour and 2-Hour parking) to operate 9am to 9pm, seven days a week
  • Introducing timed parking outside Loading Zone and Truck Zone hours, giving customers and visitors more parking options when those zones aren't operating

Here's an example of what the change in hours could look like:

Current restrictionsProposed restrictions
Timed parking, 9am to 6pm, Monday to FridayTimed parking, 9am to 9pm, 7 days
Loading Zone, 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • Loading Zone stays the same
  • Timed parking applies 6pm to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday*

*Timed parking: the time limit would match other timed parking in the surrounding area, for example, 1-Hour or 2-Hour parking.

This proposal focuses on current parking needs in the area. We know every area has its own mix of businesses, operating hours and parking needs, which we've considered as part of this review.

These changes would only apply to on-street parking next to shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and other businesses, including buildings with homes above a shop or other business.

What would stay the same
  • Existing Loading Zone and Truck Zone days and hours
  • No Stopping areas, you would still not be able to stop or park where these signs apply

What happens next

Consultation has now closed. Feedback will inform what changes do or don’t go ahead. It will be considered alongside technical advice, traffic and parking data, and broader community benefit, before a further report is presented to Council in 2027, seeking a decision on any changes. This proposal focuses on current parking needs in the area. A broader parking review will take place in future and may consider other changes to parking restrictions. Properties that received a consultation letter will also be notified of the outcome by mail.
