About what's being proposed

We're proposing changes to the days and times parking restrictions apply on High Street and Orrong Road, to help increase the availability of limited on-street parking during busy periods, particularly in the evenings and on weekends.

We're asking for your feedback on the following:

  • Increasing parking times in response to local business requests: 1-Hour parking spaces are proposed to change to 2-Hour parking, 9am to 9pm, seven days a week
  • Extending other timed parking restrictions (such as 15-Minute parking) to operate 9am to 9pm, seven days a week
  • Introducing time limits to unrestricted parking spaces, some all-day parking would change to timed parking
  • Introducing timed parking outside Loading Zone and Truck Zone hours, giving customers and visitors more parking options when those zones aren't operating

Here's an example of what the change in hours could look like:

Current restrictionsProposed restrictions
1-Hour timed parking, 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday2-Hour timed parking, 9am to 9pm, 7 days
Other timed parking (e.g. 15-Minute), 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday

Timed parking, 9am to 9pm, 7 days

Loading Zone, 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • Loading Zone stays the same
  • Timed parking applies 6pm to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday*
Unrestricted all-day parkingTimed parking, 9am to 9pm, 7 days*

*Timed parking: this time limit would match other timed parking in the surrounding area, for example, 2-Hour parking.

We know every area has its own mix of businesses, operating hours and parking needs, which we've considered as part of this review.

These changes would only apply to on-street parking next to shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and other businesses, including buildings with homes above a business.

What would stay the same

  • Days and hours for existing Loading Zone and Truck Zone restrictions
  • No Stopping areas, you would still not be able to stop or park where these signs apply

Please note: The green legend also shows locations where other timed parking restrictions, such as 15-minute parking, are proposed to apply from 9 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week.

What happens next

Consultation has now closed. Feedback will inform what changes do or don’t go ahead. It will be considered alongside technical advice, traffic and parking data, and broader community benefit, before a further report is presented to Council in 2027, seeking a decision on any changes. This proposal focuses on current parking needs in the area. A broader parking review will take place in future and may consider other changes to parking restrictions. Properties that received a consultation letter will also be notified of the outcome by mail.
