Existing zone overview
Zone 5 comprises a linear corridor stretching from Burke Road in the west to Elm Road in the east. The existing shared user path (Gardiners Creek Trail) extends through the zone and passes underneath Great Valley Road. Sections of Gardiners Creek / Kooyongkoot are channelised.
Proposed concept design
The primary focus for this zone is user experience, safety and environmental advocacy. Key elements of the concept design:
- new fitness equipment
- new furniture and seating
- upgrade shared user path

100% indigenous planting and protected spaces allowing rewilding to happen naturally so ecology can heal and wildlife can increase numbers.

Cycle connections to Gardiner Park from East and West would be fantastic. My son rides there frequently which scares me due to lack of paths

John says:
I agree about the danger of aggressive cyclists on the shared path. It's only a matter of time before a very serious incident.

Alex says:
A dedicated path for the many dog walkers in the area would be welcome. This would ensure the safety of dogs and their owners.

Alex says:
The shared bike path is not really "shared". Aggressive cyclists seems to routinely have near misses hitting either a pedestrian or dog.

Derek says:
S-turn just past Burke road is dangerous. You have a path coming in and high speed cyclists. Very limited line of sight. Widen? Thin trees?
15 August, 2024
Derek says:
There's a larger problem of high speed bikes (and their anger) vs pedestrians and family riding that needs to be addressed generally

Please improve the lighting, to make the path safer for walkers (and for bike riders to see walkers). The track gets dark quickly in parts.
