Ray and Dixon Park development proposal

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback

In April 2025, we invited feedback on a proposal to make the park on the corner of Ray and Dixon streets bigger, by extending the green space into the Ray Street roadway between Dixon and Thanet streets in Malvern.

We wanted to understand community support for the proposal, before we progressed any further.

What we asked

In 2024 we built a new park on the corner of Ray and Dixon streets that has proved popular with the local Malvern community. We are looking to extend the parkland into the Ray Street roadway and give residents even more green space to enjoy.

We wanted to understand the level of support for expanding the park into Ray Street.

We also wanted to hear how the Dixon Street park is being enjoyed and, if we extended the park, what the community would like to see in the new community space.

Noting:

  1. any new park at this location would be suited to passive activities only – dog walking, relaxing, etc. The size of the space would not accommodate active sports or use as a dog off-leash park
  2. any design would take into consideration that existing access to the three properties on Ray Street be maintained.

What you told us

Community sentiment and support for the project was positive overall. Most respondents live nearby and walk to the park weekly or daily.

Many recognised the benefits of increased green space, having additional places to gather, socialise and be active, while creating habitat for wildlife.

Practical considerations for visitors and neighbours include parking, vehicle and pedestrian access, lighting, seating, and shade.

What happens next

We’re still in the early stages of considering this proposal and we have a long way to go.

Your views are now being included in the decision to progress this proposal further. If the proposal proceeds, your feedback will inform the development of a draft concept design that we will share with you for feedback.
