At the Council meeting held on 5 December, approval was given to extend the temporary trial in order to finalise the statutory 223 process; after which Council will decide whether to proceed with the permanent implementation.

As such, the temporary trial has been extended until March 2017

Aim of the project.

The aim of the project is to improve the pedestrian amenity of the Greville Street precinct. This has been made possible by introducing one-way traffic movement and the closure of King Street to traffic. The one way movement has reduced traffic volumes and generally improved the safety of the precinct.

The temporary treatments have created an environment that is safer and easier to navigate for the 4,000 pedestrians currently using Greville Street daily, whilst providing further opportunities for trader use of temporary areas.

Statutory 2.2.3 Process

Council will invite submissions from the community in February 2017 in relation to making the trial changes permanent. A committee of council will consider submissions prior to making the final decision in March 2017.

Extension of Local Law permits and liquor licenses

Local Laws has extended the Road Occupation permits for the remainder of the trial. If you have an existing liquor license, please apply to have this extended also.

Construction timeline

Subject to Council’s decision in March, construction will commence shortly after in the section between Porter and Grattan Streets. Council officers will liaise with all traders prior to construction commencing to ensure minimal impact on business owners during this time.
