Construction of King Street is now completed

This is the third stage of the Greville/Porter/King Public Realm Improvement project that has previously improved the streetscapes of Greville and Porter streets.

Garden bed planting, pavement pattern and colour, bespoke lighting and gobo light feature, contemporary seating design and the artist’s lace work translated to the mesh connecting light poles at King Street is a nice celebration of the character of Chapel Street.

The artwork and Street furniture are all made locally in Victoria. The artwork is also designed by Stonnington local artist, Helen O’Connor from Thurley.

Grant funding of $500,000, secured under the Federal Government’s Department of Home Affairs Safer Communities Fund – Infrastructure Grants, will contribute to the cost of these works.

King Street which was a one way street with car parks in one side is now transformed in to “King’s walk”, a fully pedestrian environment. The new space is designed to create a local destination, where people can come to enjoy the environment and engage with surrounding retail, food and trade businesses
