Adjustments to the temporary treatments and 3 month extension:

Feedback provided during the trial has created an opportunity for Council to understand what is working well and what can be improved. Council has made adjustments to the temporary treatments based on feedback received. Changes included:

Between Grattan Street and Porter Street

• Widening the road a little to allow better west bound traffic flow
• Returning cars spaces between Grattan Street and Porter Street
• Replacing cafe barriers and plastic kerbs with line marking to delineate parking bays
• More signage and line marking at the Porter and Greville Street intersection

Between Izett Street and Grattan Street

• Rearrangement of the parking bays and dining areas to increase parking and create more useable dining spaces
• Providing additional loading zone for business owners

Between Izett Street and Chapel Street

• Providing three additional car spaces on the Southern side of the road for evening use
• Retaining existing layout of temporary dining spaces

King Street between Chapel and Little Chapel

• Rearrangement of furniture and lighting to encourage more people to use the space.
• Provision of a loading zone at the east end of the street.

The purpose of the proposed changes is to improve the pedestrian environment in Greville Street which has been made possible by introducing a one-way traffic movement. The one-way movement has also reduced traffic volumes and improved the safety of the intersection at Izett Street. The wider footpaths will create a safer environment and more space for the 4000 pedestrians that currently use Greville Street daily and makes allowance for the forecast densification of the area. It also provides an opportunity for traders to take advantage of the additional space for kerb side trading.

Extension of street trade permit and liquor licences

Local Laws have extended the 3-month permits. This extension should be enough for Liquor Licensing to consider and extend the licences for this period.

Following the trial, there will be further opportunities to provide comments and feedback on the changes in order for council to decide on a way forward for permanent implementation.

The City of Stonnington’s Urban and Infrastructure Projects department wishes to advise residents and traders that adjustments to the temporary treatments on Greville, King and Porter streets will commence from Monday 26^th September 2016.

Urban Maintenance Systems Pty Ltd will soon be progressing to deliver some adjustments to the temporary treatments on Greville, King and Porter Streets based on community feedback over the previous three months. These adjustments include providing more parking spaces within Greville and King Street, improving safety at the intersections and creating more spaces for cafe dining and trade opportunities. Traffic directions will not be altered.

Working hours are usually from 7am to 5pm Monday to Fridayand 8am to 3pm on Saturday. The contractor may work outside these hours from time to time to minimise the impact of construction activities on traders.

FAQ:

Q. Will “Vehicle Access” be affected?

A. No. Vehicle access will be maintained throughout the course of the project.

Q. Will “Parking” be affected?

A. Yes. Car spaces are required for work vehicles and deliveries. The number of car spaces occupied will be minimised and re-opened as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Q. Will “Pedestrian Access” be affected?

A. No. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project.

Q. Will on "Street Trading" be affected?

Yes. However the contractor will stage the construction works to minimise the impact on traders.
