Hard waste collection is an important council service, so we want to make sure it works for our community. Our community finds it particularly useful when downsizing, moving house or decluttering. Our current scheduled service is well utilised; however, we have heard from some residents that they would like more flexibility.

Why we are reviewing the service

Our current hard waste service

We offer two Council wide hard waste collections per year. Last year we introduced an additional paid booked collection service. Both are well utilised by our community. Find out more about our hard waste service dates on the Council website.

Potential future service options

Your feedback will help us understand what residents need from the service, any barriers to using it, and what matters most when disposing of hard waste.

We'll use what we hear from the community, alongside considerations such as improving access, value for money and how the service can be delivered efficiently, to determine the best option for the future.

A range of service delivery options could be considered, including scheduled collections, bookable collections, and hybrid approaches that combine elements of both.

Your feedback will help inform Council's preferred approach before any future changes are considered.

  • A booked system would allow residents to arrange collection at a time that suits them rather than waiting for a scheduled period.
  • Both options include a set number of collections per property per year.
  • Any change to the service would take effect when the new contract begins in 2027.
  • Collection times throughout the year.
  • User needs will help determine the type of collection service offered.

Any budget, operational, or legislative requirements that will inform the final decision.

At the close of consultation, all feedback will be collated and considered alongside cost and logistics to inform a recommended service model. The results will be presented to Council and form part of the considerations for the new hard waste service contract.
