Armadale Station Bridge design

Armadale Station and its bridge is a key part of the arrival experience at Armadale, with heritage value and views appreciated from surrounding streets and lanes.

Subject to input from Metro Trains Melbourne and rail authority, the masterplan proposes removing recent steel cladding with semi-permeable material to reveal the bridge's original lattice structure and allow more natural light through. The bridge also frames views toward Kingsway and Kings Arcade. Opportunities exist for heritage interpretation through lighting and public art on the bridge's interior surfaces. Future upgrades to station access from Morey Street should include replacing the existing asphalt floor. The disused kiosk at the southern end of the bridge also presents potential for future revitalisation.

Key changes

  • Upgrades to reveal the heritage character of the bridge
  • Opportunity for public art and lighting
  • Upgrade of flooring to current standards
