Our city is growing and the way we live, work and play is changing - increasing the need to better manage our roads and parking.
To address these changes, we undertook a thorough review of parking across Stonnington. This included parking for bicycles, motorcycles and cars and considering how space currently used for parking could be re-utilised to benefit the community.
We know there are many challenges and needed your help to explore ways to make changes that aligned with community expectations, balance the needs of all road users and respond to future growth.
This consultation was the first step in a longer process to develop a Parking Action Plan. Thank you for getting involved and helping shape parking in Stonnington by filling out the survey. Consultation closed - Sunday 15 September 2024.
The strongest themes were fairer permit allocation, stronger enforcement, better use of off-street parking, and improved accessibility.
Safety and congestion were the main community concerns, with strong support for both infrastructure improvements and behaviour change.
The community wants parking to better support businesses while improving accessibility, streetscape quality and sustainable transport options.

You’ve shared some thoughts about parking in Stonnington to help us develop the following strategies over the last four years, all of which is being considered in the Parking Action Plan.
You told us that parking is an important local issue, but that delivering and advocating for sustainable and enjoyable pedestrian, cycling and public transport options is also a high priority.
You also told us you want more trees, seating and wider footpaths.
Now we need your help to get the balance right, so our streets work for everyone whether walking, cycling, using public transport or driving.
