Wilmot Street / Dandenong Road intersection
Proposed relocation of median opening
Your feedback is invited on a proposal to change the Wilmot Street / Dandenong Road intersection by closing the existing median opening at the end of Wilmot Street between the Dandenong Road service road and the eastbound traffic lanes. A new median opening mid-block between Wilmot and MacGregor streets would be installed to replace the current opening, if the proposal proceeds.
The proposed change responds to safety concerns raised by the local community.
An assessment by our traffic engineers determined that relocating the median opening between Wilmot and MacGregor streets will deliver the greatest improvement to motorist safety and have the least impact on local access.
The proposed works are indicated on the accompanying plan and include:
- Closing the current median opening opposite Wilmot Street (between the Dandenong Road eastbound lanes and the service lane);
- Creating a new median opening mid-block, between Wilmot Street and MacGregor Street; and
- Converting the westbound right-turn from Dandenong Road into Wilmot Street a U-turn only.
If supported, we expect to complete the works within the 2022/23 financial year.
Submissions on the proposal are now invited.
Consultation closes on 26 June 2022, after which all feedback will be reported to Council and a decision made on whether to proceed with the change or not.
