Engagement on the redevelopment of the Prahran Skate Park and basketball courts began in September 2020 and through a series of community and stakeholder engagement programs a community-led design was finalised in late-2022.
The announcement of the final design in October 2022 brings to a close the community engagement on the Prahran skate park and basketball court.
The next and final phase of this project is the construction, which will take place in 2023.

Earlier this year we asked for feedback on a draft design to revamp Prahran skate park and basketball court. The draft was developed from feedback we received in 2020, when we asked the community what they liked about the skate park and what we could do to make it even better.
What we heard was that locals and skateboarders generally loved what they saw but wanted a full-size vert ramp and a mini ramp, plus a few changes to skate park obstacles.
We listened and changed the design so the existing vert ramp could be relocated within the park. We also improved other elements of the park and added in a mini vert ramp.
What we have now is a final skate park and basketball court design you’ll love!
How your feedback influenced change
What were heard from the community influenced some fairly significant changes to the draft design, most notably retaining the existing large vert ramp by relocating it within the park and building a new small vert ramp.

the redesigned skatepark is just like any other skateparks in Melbourne. it would be nice to see something that we don't really get to see. for example a curve rail, rainbow ledge something like that would add a lot of uniqueness.
All for a new skate park but have concerns about the loss of trees in the park. We already bake in the new square. Why hasn't the skate park been integrated into the existing landscape? The aerial base photo that the design is placed over, shows some nice shade across the road but this will be gone, seemingly without justification. A convex curved ledge ending is not practical. A sharper corner end makes it easier to grind off the end of the ledge without needing to pop out
This tree is also completely in the way of the quarter pipe/bank
I love trees just as much as the next bloke, but how are you meant to skate towards or away from this bank/quarter pipe if there is exposed aggregate for ground and a giant tree in the way?
I'm not too sure what this is meant to be, and it just looks like its in the way. Remove it completely and open up some free space to move from obstacle to obstacle so we don't end up with East Bentleigh
My personal opinion is that a 2-stair at a skatepark is completely useless. Having a bank instead would mean that skaters (especially beginners) could use this obstacle traveling both directions rather than one direction only.
Get rid of the potentially dangerous 1-foot high retaining wall at each end of the quarter pipe, and pay homage to the original Prahran bowl by having curved corners on this ramp.

The bowl needs to stay! Such an inclusive space that is utilised by both beginners to advanced. The vert ramp attracts international skaters and professionals. The inclusion of night lights via timer would be great as skaters use there car head lights at night.
The space also allows for both adult and youth to exercise via skating and rollerblading plus bmx riders.
If anything the space needs maintenance not a rebuild. Perhaps investing in a Prahran skate management group?
Please speak to the locals as they are the ones who will know what is needed and suited. Not an external designer who most probably has never skated there.

We need more bowls. So much is street sections in the new parks but lacking good bowls to carve around.
