Shaping the future of your neighbourhood
Each neighbourhood is different, and that’s why the City of Stonnington is striving to increase economic opportunity and make our neighbourhoods more about the people who use them.
To discover what is most important to the community when planning for the future, the City of Stonnington conducted two sets of engagement:
- A place based engagement program in seven of our largest commercial precincts, occurred in February and March 2022. These precincts are outlined on this page. The engagement program consisted of a three tier approach starting with a community survey, hosting a number of stakeholder workshops and undertook a series of on-street pop-up engagement sessions with members of the community and small business. With more than 1,600 participants, we were able to gather some incredible insights and feedback about how we can develop our precincts to be more people and visitor focused and have been the driving basis of the development of seven place (precinct) plans.
- An industry engagement program in July and August 2022 helped to identify industry wide challenges and opportunities for Stonnington. These consisted of in depth interviews with industry leaders from retail, Leisure and hospitality, professional services, business, education, medical, manufacturing, construction and the creative sectors. These are informing the development of an industry focused opportunities plan.
Further refinement of the new Place Led Economic Development Strategy – Great Places, Thriving Communities – and its seven place plans is currently underway.
The draft will be made available for public exhibition over the next few months.
