Footpath trading

We are proposing to make updates to laws about footpath trading in order to reflect the new Council framework.

A new Visual Footpath Trading and Awnings Policy is being developed to provide a more interpretive and realistic perspective on footpath trading.

Current:

Use of the term ‘Footpath Trading Code’

Proposed:

Replace with ‘Footpath Trading and Awnings Policy’

Rationale:

This would ensure the law reflects the correct policy name.

The policy surrounding footpath trading and awnings will give consideration to allow semi-fixed barriers and umbrellas.

Current:

Existing fixed furniture is permitted within designated footpath trading areas (although this is currently not an option for new applications).

Proposed:

Consideration will be given to allowing semi-fixed barriers and umbrellas for new and existing footpath trading areas.

Rationale:

This would ensure traders have the opportunity to take full advantage of Council’s Footpath Trading and Awnings Policy.
