About this plan

We are making a new Environment Strategy.

The environment strategy is a plan for what we will do to care for the environment .

Environment means the world around us.

The strategy is for 15 years.

It goes from 2026 - 2041.

Why we need to look after the environment

Climate change is happening in Stonnington.

Climate change means the Earth’s weather is changing over a long time.

We are seeing:

  • Hotter days

  • Stronger storms and extreme weather

    Extreme weather means very hot days, heavy rain, or strong storms.

  • Fewer plants and animals

This plan will help us:

  • Care for the environment

  • Reduce emissions

    • Emissions are gases that go into the air.
    • These gases can harm the environment.

  • Protect plants, animals and habitats

  • Use water carefully

  • Cut waste and recycle more

  • Help our community to care for the environment

  • Support our Community Vision

    The Community Vision is:

    "Welcome to Stonnington 2040. A modern, sustainable and interconnected community that supports the good health and wellbeing of all. Our community is a safe, accessible and creative city that celebrates and embraces all cultures including First Peoples past and present."

Our five big goals

The Environment Strategy has 5 big goals:

  • Keep people, places and nature safe


  • Cleaner air and less pollution

    Pollution means making the environment dirty or unsafe.

  • Care for our water


  • More trees, plants and wildlife

  • Reuse materials and reduce waste

  • This includes people from many cultures, different ages, and local groups.
