Road Safety Improvements - South Yarra - Proposal Plans

Trial a 30 km/h speed limit (down from 40 km/h) in the Council-managed section from Alexandra Avenue to Dandenong Road for an initial 18-month period. Safer speeds reduce both the likelihood and consequences of crashes and in Chapel Street would support more people to walk and cycle, creating a more pleasant environment. New speed signage would be installed. Trial would run for 18 months with further opportunities to provide feedback to help determine if it is made permanent.

Build a raised pedestrian crossing on Osborne Street at the intersection with Toorak Road, including extending the bike lane. Raised crossings improve accessibility, and improve safety by making people walking more visible to drivers. There would be no changes to parking and existing trees and street furniture would be retained.
