Road Safety Improvements - Malvern East - Proposal Plans

Implement a 40 km/h area speed limit for the area bounded by Darling Road, Malvern Road, Wattletree Road, Burke Road and Waverley Road, in Malvern East. The area is largely residential however many walk and cycle to local destinations such as Lloyd Street Primary School, St Mary's Primary School and church, Hedgeley Dene Gardens and local shops and cafes. Safer speeds reduce both the likelihood and the consequences of crashes, and encourage walking and cycling. New speed signage would be installed.

June 2025 Update: Council approved to progress the implementation of the 40km/h speed zones. Further information will be made available on the major infrastructure works and projects page when the program is implemented.

Trial a 30km/hr speed limit (down from the current 40km/h) on Rothesay Avenue, Summerhill Ave, Lloyd St, Fell Cres, Grant St between Tennyson St & Fell Cres, Tennyson St between Grant St & Manning Rd, and Manning Rd between Tennyson St & Lloyd St to further improve safety for the school community, especially for those walking and riding during pick-up and drop-off, and others in the community. Safer speeds reduce both the likelihood of, and the consequences of crashes. New speed signage would be installed. Trial would run for 18 months with further opportunities to provide feedback to help determine if it is made permanent.

June 2025 Update: At this time, the project is not proceeding, though it may be revisited in the future.
